Signs of Spring

This morning as I peeked out into the backyard, I caught a glimpse of the thing I’ve been waiting for since the groundhog saw his shadow:

I can’t wait to eat this guy!

The first stalk of asparagus poking up through the mulch!

The pears and apple trees are also starting to bud.

Hopefully, future Asian Pears.

In other news, the peppers are almost all sprouted—just the Habanadas are doing haba-nothing. While there’s not much I can do about it now, I will be changing up my pepper germination station differently next year by adding heat mats. They probably would have germinated a lot faster if they we warmer.

I’ll be thinning out the doubles in each pot soon.

Additionally, the tomatoes and tomatillos I planted are sprouting, too! Still a quite a few varieties that are have yet to germinate, but they were only planted about a week ago.

Coming along nicely!

This means that we have a ton of work to do out in the garden to prepare for spring planting over the next few weeks. We should be receiving our potatoes, onions, and asparagus crowns shortly, and they need somewhere to live once they get here.

I can finally feel spring in the air!
